Bio

Andrew D. Crain is currently a scholar in residence in the Interdisciplinary Telecom Program at the University of Colorado Boulder.  Prior to joining the University of Colorado, Crain was Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Qwest Communications; there he was responsible for the company's regulatory lawyers.  Before that position, he managed the company's commercial lawyers who negotiated all commercial contracts for the company and provided advice to its product development group.  During his twelve years at Qwest and its predecessor U.S.West, Crain also served as the head of the company's FCC lawyers, the head of the company's wholesale lawyers, a lead lawyer in the company's project to obtain approval to provide long distance services, the company's state regulatory attorney for South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana, and the lawyer responsible for its cable litigation.  Prior to joining the company in 1997, Crain was a partner at the Chicago law firm Ross and Hardies where he had a diverse commercial practice.

Crain is the author of a book on the history of the United States during the presidency of Gerald Ford and he is currently working on the history of the Carter administration.
