Mission Charter for the Telecom Studetn Organization
Section I
Purpose of the Organization
The purpose of the Telecom Student Organization (TSO) shall be to serve as a forum for Graduate Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Students for discussion and activities related to Corporate and Faculty Relations, Curriculum Advice, Events Management and Merchandise Acquisition.
The TSO shall serve to benefit the students, university administration and industry members alike acting as a liaison to each of the parties mentioned. The TSO strives to holistically improve the ITP program as a cradle of growth for future Telecommunication professionals ranging across engineering, business and regulatory paradigms.
Section II
Membership
Every student of the Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program (ITP) is participating member of the Telecom Student Organization, according to the membership guidelines set forth in this document.
A student becomes a participating member of the TSO upon enrollment into the ITP program, this includes distance learning students of the ITP program. General student participation includes optional attendance to any Executive Committee meetings or attendance in projects or events in which a student may voice their concern and/or opinion about any of the aforementioned areas of unitary concern.
Executive Committee members are added through the TSO interview process yearly or based on need, and are assigned specific tasks in functional units.
Section III
TSO Structure and Officers
The elected officers of the TSO Executive Committee shall be the President, Vice President, Treasurer and specific Committee Unit members. Other officers may be added as deemed necessary.
Duties of the Officers:
The President shall be responsible for convening and conducting meetings of the TSO. The President is also responsible for participating, or delegating another person, to specific tasks and events as well as other campus-wide activities.
The Vice President shall be responsible for convening and conducting meetings and other activities of the TSO in the absence of the President. Other duties may be assigned to the Vice President as deemed necessary.
The Treasurer shall keep financial records for the TSO. Either or both the President and the Treasurer may be authorized as a signatory for withdrawal or deposit of funds.
Committee Unit Members: Any interested and participating member of the TSO may be added to the Executive Committee as an officer and are concerned with specific unitary functions that benefit the ITP program as a whole.
Should an officer need to be removed from office, it will be handled by a consensus vote at a regularly scheduled meeting.

Meetings
The TSO shall meet bi-weekly at a date and time determined by the majority present at the first or second meeting of the semester; the time and date may change each semester, according to student and faculty advisor schedules.
Decisions shall be made by consensus. When necessary, votes shall be taken and a simple majority will be required for acceptance.
Section VI
Ratification
This Charter of the TSO shall be ratified by consensus of the participating and Executive Committee members present at the second meeting of the Spring semester, 2008.
Section VIII
Amendments
Amendments may be made to this Charter at the second or third meeting of the Spring semester, 2008 provided notification of the amendment has been given at a meeting previously. It is not necessary that this notification be in writing.
